Well done Liverpool on regeneration

I read recently about the Mount Pleasant and Rodney Street regeneration scheme in Liverpool. To my eyes, this is a good example of how an area should be rejuvenated. 6million GB Pounds is being spent on establishing a Knowledge Quarter. This will bring about a number of worthwhile benefits such as improvements to the public realm and the creation of a new public space. It will also attract young people to the area. Safety will be improved and traffic reduced thus enabling better access. This also means that many outstanding heritage sites will benefit and will be restored to their former glory.

The scheme is also the result of a viable and effective partnership between the City Council, government regeneration agencies, regional offices, the two universities in Liverpool and the private sector. The scheme will also provide better linkages between the two Cathedrals and enrich the area. The scheme has been the result of strong community consultation and involvement which have helped to gain the support of local people since they see that their quality of life will be substantially improved.

This is one of the last pieces of the Liverpool regeneration jigsaw and it is acting as a link to other areas that have already been regenerated. The final outcome is that Liverpool will be able to attract further investment into the City and help to establish it as a World City - well done!
